Personal Profile

Mr. M.R.Joshi was born in 1938 at Ratnagiri and graduated from the College of Engineering, Pune in Civil Engineering. He joined DRDO as Research Fellow in 1963 and worked in various capacities in the same organisation till he retired from service in July 1999 after attaining the age of 61. He was heading the DRDO Laboratory - R&DE(Engrs), Pune for over 10 years from 1989 to 1999.

Mr. Joshi specialises in Military Bridging – He has seen a number of Mobile Bridging systems from Concept to Induction.

He initiated the work on re-engineering the organisation through use of Information Technology. In particular, launching of in-house 'Mayurpankh' - an Intranet Workplace, which paved the way for knowledge sharing and paperless transactions. This is now providing a strong foundation for the major processes in workflow management and decision-making. Remarkable thing is that this was introduced as early as 1989 and kept on getting upgraded as the technology changed.

Mr. Joshi pioneered the concept of Concurrent Engineering methodology using full potential of Information Technology. This was accelerated through Multi-organisational team building and creation of appropriate environment conducive to scientific and technological research.

Even at the age of seventy, he is active and busy in providing Consultancy services and participating in academic activities. He is heading one group in eSangathan – BERTHA, which has team members of different age groups and diverse disciplines. This group is trying to use the eSangathan for knowledge sharing, project management and if feasible to share good experiences and things in real life through IT. These experiences hopefully will bring the good things of the past without missing the present day advances. This way, dementia or Alzheimer’s disease will be kept at bay – at least for eSangathan participants.
